Becoming an Educator

Registration Process

To become an approved Educator with Townsville Inner City Family Day Care an applicant must:

  • Complete an initial interview and self assessment
  • Obtain Suitability cards for themselves and anyone over 18 years who lives in or who regularly visits the FDC home
  • Undergo a home safety check – to all areas of the home and garden
  • Obtain a Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Obtain a roadworthy certificate for the car – if transporting children
  • Complete a written evacuation plan for the home
  • Obtain FDC Public Liability Insurance
  • Participate in an orientation process that includes administration and legal obligations, Educator responsibilities and basic training.
  • Commit to commencement of Certificate III qualification if not qualified.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.



Educators are responsible for setting their own fees in line with the Scheme’s Fee setting procedure.



Educators will need to possess a minimum of Cert III in Child Care. Opportunities to study externally to achieve this Qualification will be explained by the Scheme to new Educators.  Educators will also be expected to access training and professional development opportunities, as they arise.
